We can all be part of the solution--- together we can provide a safe environment and foster a greater respect of the dignity of the human person. All priests, deacons, employees, and volunteers serving at the parish are required to take Safe Environment Training annually.
In the Diocese of Phoenix all volunteers must complete an in-person foundation course for Safe Environment. This 1.5 hour in-person class is called "Serving at Saint Thomas" and takes place the first Wednesday of the month in the parish office. In addition to learning steps that will ensure a Safe Environment for every child and adult, the class also covers the mission of the parish and ways to get involved in the community at Saint Thomas. Following the class, each person will be asked to complete a volunteer application, a short face-to-face interview, and have references checked.
Following the foundation, volunteers are asked to complete renewal training annually. This training is offered through in-class sessions or through computer ‘online’ training.
